Disabling / Hiding OneDrive in Windows 10

Microsoft have baked OneDrive into Windows 10, a terrible business practice to try and drag all of our information into their cloud!

If you want to use a working cloud backup solution – like dropbox or box. You probably dont want the BETA (I will call OneDrive beta until it accepts the same character set as NTFS for filenames, like every other cloud solution!) OneDrive in your way.

Heres how to hide it in Windows 10 :

  • Open gpedit.msc
  • Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > OneDrive.
  • Change the setting “Prevent the usage of OneDrive for file storage” to Enabled
  • Go to File Explorer and click the OneDrive node in the left pane tree once and it should dissapear (no need to even reboot!)
